Junior Group Leader (Tenure Track)

The Princess Máxima Center is seeking highly motivated Junior Group Leaders (tenure track) in the field of fundamental or translational (pediatric) oncology research. We are particularly interested in candidates focusing on early development of (pediatric) cancer, tumor immunology, and treatment detoxification, though applicants from other relevant research areas are also encouraged to apply. As a tenure track group leader, the Máxima offers you the possibility to establish your own independent research group and provides you with an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at improving cancer treatment and outcomes, with a special emphasis on pediatric oncology.

The position

You will be responsible for establishing and leading your own research group. As a junior group leader you are expected to establish a unique and impactful line of research funded through a combination of intramural and extramural funding. Your work is directly or indirectly relevant to our understanding of pediatric cancer thus providing a unique contribution to our mission to cure every child with cancer with an optimal quality of life. The tenure track appointment is for 5 years, at which point an evaluation by an external tenure committee will be used to determine if tenure to a permanent appointment as group leader will be granted.

You have a proven track record in the research field and have a highly original and exciting research plan for the coming years. With this, we expect you to be ready to establish your own independent research group. You will demonstrate excellence in research productivity, independence, (international) visibility and networking, impact, expertise in the relevant field, leadership, and a commitment to good citizenship. The highest standards of quality and integrity are essential, and you are expected to actively promote inclusivity, diversity, and safety. Lastly, you are committed to ensuring that your research contributes to the mission of the Máxima and you share our ambition to achieve this goal.

Compensations and benefits

We offer a full-time position (based on 36 hours a week) in a very stimulating and interactive environment. We offer a highly competitive start-up package that includes support for a number of additional positions besides your own. In addition, we will provide courses in research management and mentoring, as well as support in securing housing and child support. The contract will be initially for five + two years, with the possibility for a permanent position as a group leader upon satisfaction. Your gross monthly salary (FWG 70) will be based on your experience and background and will include 8,33% holiday allowance and 8,33% end-of-year bonus. The Princess Máxima Center operates according to the collective labor agreement ‘CAO ziekenhuizen’.

The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology is an integrated hospital and research institute, which integrates healthcare, research and education on pediatric cancer, in a single location in Utrecht. Our institute aims to provide the highest level of care for all children with cancer, with optimal quality of life. The center brings together the best possible care and scientific research, creating a unique interdisciplinary institute for pediatric oncology in Europe.

Currently, the research organization consists of 37 group leaders who are active in the fields of fundamental, translational, and clinical research.
