The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology is a comprehensive cancer center integrating research with care for all children with cancer in the Netherlands. It is the world’s only single national pediatric cancer center and Europe’s largest. Its aim is to cure every child with cancer and with optimal quality of life. Research at the Máxima is multidisciplinary, covering the complete spectrum from fundamental science to clinical research, all highly integrated. The current 36 research groups work closely with each other and with the clinical staff, all supported by excellent facilities.
In order to strengthen our strategic focus on immunology and to further develop immunotherapeutic options for pediatric cancer patients, we are seeking one or two outstanding research group leaders in the field of tumor immunology. The group leader position can be at any level ranging from a starting group leader who is finishing a successful postdoctoral fellowship, to a senior, tenured group leader, with established lines of research. Applicants should have a focus and strong international track record in either fundamental, translational or clinical tumor immunology research. Successful applicants will be expected to pursue highly innovative research projects with a short- or long-term focus on improving treatment of pediatric cancer. We have particular interest in candidates focusing on CAR T-cell therapies, oncolytic viruses, identification of immune suppressive mechanisms, glycosylation and vaccination strategies. Candidates with a track record in setting up laboratories and/or implementing clinical protocols for (cellular) immune therapy are also encouraged to apply, as are candidates with a strong track record in fundamental research in (tumor) immunology. Scientific excellence is key, as is teamwork. Regardless of scientific background, we expect the group leader to engage strongly with the other members of our integrated research community, comprised of fundamental researchers and clinician scientists, to help develop and implement novel immunotherapeutic options.
Utrecht is a vibrant city in the center of the Netherlands. The Máxima is located on the Utrecht Science Park, an exciting academic campus with excellent private-public partnerships, facilities and multi-disciplinary expertise. Salary will be competitive and depend on suitability, experience and background. Successful candidates will be supported by generous core funding, personal development programs and assistance with relocation from abroad if necessary.
