The Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Research technician with experience in tissue culture and cell biological techniques to run the institute’s organoid core facility.
The Princess Máxima Center is a new research hospital concentrating healthcare, research and education with regard to cancer in children in a single location in Utrecht. The institute aims to provide the highest level of care for all children with cancer and has the ambition to cure all children with cancer and significantly reduce unwanted side effects. The center brings together the best possible care and scientific research, creating a unique interdisciplinary institute for pediatric oncology in Europe.
The candidate will be running the organoid facility, which is embedded in the research team of Jarno Drost. The Drost group studies the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of childhood kidney and rhabdoid tumors and aims to identify novel therapies. We develop and utilize state-of-the-art stem cell culture models, such as 3D organoids, in combination with genomics and gene editing technologies to study fundamental processes driving tumor growth. Tasks and responsibilities
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic research technician to run the organoid facility. Responsibilities include production and quality testing of conditioned media and preparation of growth factors required for organoid culturing. The candidate will also be responsible for communication with our commercial suppliers. In addition, the candidate will be involved in culture and characterization of organoids. Different techniques will be applied including tissue culture, histology and DNA/RNA analyses.
- BSc degree or similar experience in biomedical sciences.
- Experience with cell culture and molecular biological techniques is desirable.
- The candidate should have good communication skills, be flexible, versatile and a good team player.
Working at the Princess Maxima Center for Pediatric Oncology
We offer a full-time position based on 36 hours per week for the duration of one year with a possibility to extend after positive evaluation. The Princess Máxima Center operates according to the collective labor agreement ‘cao algemene ziekenhuizen’.
