The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology is a research hospital concentrating healthcare, research and education of pediatric cancer in a single location in Utrecht. We are looking for a talented and highly motivated postdoc to join the Peng lab at the Princess Maxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, located in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
We are a stem-cell biology lab with focus on childhood liver cancer and regenerative medicine based on stem-cell/organoid technology. We are currently looking for a postdoc to analyze genomics data and RNA-seq to elucidate the biology of childhood liver cancer, a rare cancer that affects 1 in a million children.
We employ cutting-edge genomic approaches, in vitro organoid model (incl. gene-editing, advanced imaging, high throughput screening) and in vivo model (cell transplantation in mice) to uncover the molecular mechanism underlying the development of liver tumor and the role of tumor microenvironment. A unique strength of the lab is we were the first to establish 3D organoid from primary hepatocytes that are highly efficient in engrafting mouse livers (Peng et al., Cell, 2018). Our overall goals are to better understand liver tumor and their subtypes and to develop novel therapeutics (e.g., antibodies).
Your qualifications and tasks
- D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related disciplines (and have a strong passion for data analysis)
- Excellent bioinformatics and programming skills (Python, R)
- Experience in the analysis of NGS data (WGS/WES, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, methylome, spatial transcriptomics)
- Apply available and develop new bioinformatic tools and pipelines for the analysis of NGS datasets
- Explore public database, manage and store large NGS datasets
- Familiar with NGS sample preparation procedures

The institute aims to give the best treatment to children with cancer with the highest cure rate and the least side effects of (often complex) anti-cancer treatment. The center brings together the best possible care and scientific research, creating a unique interdisciplinary institute for pediatric oncology in Europe.
A full-time position (based on 36 hours a week) in a very stimulating and cross-disciplinary research environment. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate actively with other groups at the Maxima and Utrecht Bioinformatics Center (UBC). Depending on your interests, you will also have the opportunity to do web-lab experiments.
Your gross monthly salary will be based on your experience and background with a maximum of EUR 4.303 (scale 60), plus 8.33% holiday allowance and 8,33 % end-of-year bonus. The Princess Máxima Center operates according to the collective labour agreement ‘CAO ziekenhuizen’.
