The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology is a nationwide pediatric cancer research hospital and is located in Utrecht, Science Park de Uithof. Our center has the ambition to give the best treatment to children with cancer with the highest cure rate while maintaining optimal quality of life. The center brings together the best possible care, trial development and scientific research, creating a unique interdisciplinary institute for pediatric oncology in Europe.
We are looking for a second operator to run our Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting facility. The Máxima Flow cytometry and cell sorting facility is shared resource providing cell analysis and sorting to research groups working in our institute. In addition to offering state-of-the-art facilities, we collaborate with diagnostics, to ensure rapid transition of important discoveries to clinical care. In addition, we are in close contact with the other cytometry facilities on campus to facilitate exchange of knowledge and capacity.
Over the past three years, we have seen a rapid expansion of our facility, both in terms of the number of users and the amount equipment. Therefore, we are looking for a secons well-trained and motivated Flow Cytometry operator, who can share responsibilities with and complement our current facility manager, Tomasz Poplonski.
Roles and responsibilities
- To help operate and maintain the following cell sorters:
- AstriosEQ 5 laser, 23 color cell sorter
- Cytoflex LX 6 laser, 21 color analyser
- Biorad ZE5 5 laser, 27 color analyser
- SONY SH800S 4 laser, color cell sorter
- 2 x Cytoflex S 4 laser, 13 color analyser
- MacsQuant 3 laser, 8 color
- To train new users and assist more experienced users
- To maintain inventory of supplies and reagents
- To arrange contacts with suppliers for general maintenance and in case of instrument breakdowns
- To independently run the facility during holidays and leaves of absence of our current operator
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a profound knowledge of flow cytometry principles as well as proven experience. Successful applicants will hold a laboratory bachelor (Dutch HBO) or master-degree in a field related to biomedical research. While prior experience working in a Flow facility is preferred, this is not an absolute requirement. We welcome candidates that are service minded and have strong interpersonal skills. The candidate should enjoy working in an international environment and have good communication skills in English. In addition, we expect that you are capable of multitasking and show flexibility when it comes to changing priorities. Hands-on experience with multi-colour flow cytometers (preferably cell sorters) is also important, as is the ability to immerse in a wide range of research projects with the aim of continuously improving the technological services offered.

The position is full-time and initially for a temporary period, but with the possibility of becoming permanent in future. Gross monthly salary will be competitive and depend on suitability, experience and background. The Princess Máxima Center is covered by the collective labour agreement ‘CAO algemene ziekenhuizen’.
