Learning and Development at the Máxima Center

Through our own Academy, we train professionals and share our expertise, both within and outside the Máxima Center. What makes us unique is that care and research come together under one roof, allowing practice, research, and education to continuously strengthen each other.

Learning and development at the Máxima Center go beyond attending courses: it is a process where professionals have space to explore, grow, and take responsibility. Coaching, feedback, and an inspiring learning environment support this process.

In this way, everyone contributes to excellent care and groundbreaking research while further developing themselves. How this happens varies by role and team: some teams combine training and guidance with learning through experience and practical deepening, while others focus more on one of these aspects.

This approach connects theory and practice in a way that truly makes an impact—for children, families, and colleagues.

Our approach

• Learning in practice: development takes place in daily work. Colleagues grow in ways that fit their role, department, and experience, with guidance and responsibilities built up step by step.

• Learning together: multidisciplinary teams and peer support ensure that knowledge and experience are continuously shared.

• Self-direction: within the framework of their role, employees have the opportunity to shape and steer their own learning process, supported by guidance and reflection.

• Connection with research: care and research are closely linked, so learning always contributes to personal development as well as care and research for children with cancer. At the Máxima Center, learning and development go beyond knowledge and skills: they are a way to make a difference for children with cancer, together with dedicated colleagues.
