General Practitioners & Medical Specialists

At the Princess Máxima Center, physicians at different stages of their careers work closely together toward our mission: to cure every child with cancer, with optimal quality of life

Working together to provide the best care for every child with cancer

Whether you are a pediatrician, pediatric oncologist, surgeon, neurologist, chief resident, or medical resident, you become part of a single medical team where expertise, collaboration, and dedication come together in the care of the child and family.

What makes working as a Physician at the Máxima Center Unique?

The Máxima Center is the only pediatric oncology center in the Netherlands. All care, expertise, and research are brought together under one roof. This makes the work varied and medically challenging: you experience the full breadth of pediatrics while combining specialized oncological care with general medical issues.

Our care is organized around several specialties, including hemato-oncology, solid tumors, neuro-oncology, and quality of life. Physicians work closely with nurses, researchers, and regional partners, such as the Shared Care centers and UMCU/WKZ. This ensures that treatment, support, and research are fully aligned.

What makes us especially unique is that we are a research hospital. We aim to learn from every treatment so that care and research continuously strengthen each other. By integrating research and clinical care under one roof, new insights are gained and treatment outcomes improve for every child.

Collaboration is the core of our work. Physicians, nurses, and researchers coordinate closely. In multidisciplinary teams, every treatment decision is carefully considered with input from all relevant specialties and in consultation with the child and family.

The impact of your work

As a physician at the Máxima Center, you have an impact on multiple levels: on the child’s health, on supporting the family, and on the development of new treatment methods.

You work in an environment where care and research reinforce each other, and where sharing knowledge is second nature. This means you contribute not only to today’s care, but also to tomorrow’s progress.

The work is intensive, but meaningful. At the end of the day, you know that what you do truly matters: for the child and family, your team, and the field.

Growing, learning and developing

At the Máxima Center, we encourage professional development in the broadest sense. Through training programs, educational initiatives, and the Máxima Academy, you have the opportunity to further specialize or broaden your expertise in an environment that fosters collaboration, learning, and knowledge sharing.

You work with colleagues who inspire and strengthen one another, and together we continue to advance pediatric oncology.

The Máxima Center is the place for a starting physician to develop a broad range of skills.
