Paramedical & Psychosocial Care
At the Princess Máxima Center, paramedical and psychosocial experts work closely together to support children with cancer and their families throughout all phases of treatment and recovery. This team includes physical therapists, dietitians, social workers, child life specialists, and psychologists. Together, they form an essential part of our mission: to cure every child with cancer, with optimal quality of life.
Contributing together to the best possible quality of life
The Máxima Center brings together all disciplines that support the daily functioning, well-being, and development of children with cancer under one roof. This allows you to work in a multidisciplinary setting and be an integral part of the treatment process.
What makes working in paramedical and psychosocial care unique?
Our teams combine specialist expertise with a child-centered perspective. Dietitians play a crucial role in growth, recovery, and treatment by optimizing nutrition and lifestyle habits. Developmental care continuously takes into account the child’s cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. The hospital school is also part of this department.
At the Sports and Exercise Center, professionals work every day to improve physical capacity through physical therapy, movement therapy, and specialized diagnostics. We also focus on ‘Maximaal Bewegen’ to help children maintain good physical fitness during and after treatment. Child life specialists play a central role in providing tailored support to each child, and social workers support families facing childhood cancer. Our pediatric psychologists contribute to this work and provide guidance on mental resilience and coping.
The strength lies in how these disciplines connect. Through close collaboration, each child receives the right support at the right time.
The impact of your work
Whether you focus on nutrition, exercise, psychological support, or palliative care, your expertise makes a direct and tangible difference every day. You help children maintain or rediscover their abilities. You support families during one of the most challenging and vulnerable periods of their lives. You contribute to complex decision-making, help improve care processes, and participate in research that advances the care of tomorrow.
In every interaction, big or small, you contribute to quality of life. That is what makes this work meaningful, intense, and valuable for everyone involved.
Growing, learning and developing
At the Máxima Center, we actively invest in expertise, innovation, and professional growth. You work in multidisciplinary teams with highly specialized colleagues, have access to research, education, and national networks, and enjoy ample opportunities to deepen your professional knowledge.
